Buster Burris arrived in Amboy and went to work for Roy, drove Roy's wrecker, and married Roy's daughter. When Roy died she inherited Roy's Cafe and Motel. When I-40 by-passed Route 66, Buster erected a huge sign that all could see from the interstate.
Cliff Chase salvaged railroad ties and built El Rancho in Barstow. Like Buster he erected an even taller sign that could be seen from the interstate.
