Hang a necklace between two hands and you will have a catanary curve. When Eero Saarinen designed the Gateway Arch on the St. Louis Riverfront, he flipped the curve and stood it up. Eera Saarinen not withstanding, the Arch has always been more interesting in its parts than has a whole. It forces you to complete the image in your brain. The Arch and its grounds, the Old Courthouse, and the Old Cathedral form the Gateway Arch National Park. The same holds true for words. Words, read backwards, force your brain the work harder. |
